The aims of this course are improving the abilities of understanding, taking positions and reflection by focusing particularly on grammar correctness. This should enhance the students’ proficiency as speakers and writers of German for when they wish or need to participate in professional or social situations. It is a course open to students with a proficiency at lower intermediate level. This would be defined by grammar knowledge: Present tense, cases, past tense. German A will cover the appropriate use of the adjective declinations and the understanding of the passive voice as well as enable students to form hypothetical sentences and all forms of subordinate clauses. Conversation, short writing exercises, reading of texts from various cultural spheres (depending on students’ interests), short translations from English, will all be included as a means to try to enhance the student's critical reflection about cultural identity and their ability of analysing grammatically as well as culturally and socially statements and texts in German language.
