Locating Gender in Ancient Greek Religion

In this course we will explore the roles of men and women in ancient Greek religion. We will do so by drawing in evidence from the archaeology, art, literature, drama, epigraphy and history of Greek antiquity; and by using a range of theoretical frameworks, from grounded theory to cognitive religion studies.
The course is taught in late August 2022, and in January 2023, and during the semester, will consist of research labs only, where you can get support doing and writing up your research. The trip in January will visit key sites and museums revolving around religion in the ancient Greek world. Unusual assignments throughout will shake up both your way of thinking about the ancient world and about ways to do research!
